Spring Grantmaking
At WDN Action, we're starting the year off strong by moving more than $2.3 million in early funding to 19 powerhouse organizations. While 2021 is an off-year election for many, the work on the ground is moving quickly as organizations build out capacity to maximize gains from 2020 and prepare for future cycles. Thanks to early commitments from the WDN Action community, we're able to continue to support the work of our grantees across the country.
We are investing in infrastructure and capacity-building for our grantees, meeting the urgent needs of groups working to fight voter suppression bills, addressing violence targeting AAPI communities, and funding recovery and accountability efforts in Texas.
Georgia Voting Rights Accountability & Advocacy
Groups in Georgia continue to push advocacy and accountability campaigns against recent voter suppression efforts, as well as massive education campaigns to help voters understand the new laws. To support these efforts, we are funding:
• New Georgia Project Action Fund
• Progress Georgia
• The Georgia Alliance for Progress
Asian American & Pacific Islander Community Support
With increasing violence targeted at AAPI communities, we are helping fund rapid-response needs like digital security, increased media capacity, and counselors and training for staff and community members of these organizations:
• Asian American Advocacy Fund
• API PA
• MI Asian American Progressives
• NCAAT in Action
Texas Storm Accountability & Texas Organizing Infrastructure
We saw the impact of leadership that prioritizes corporations over people with the devastating February winter storms that rocked Texas. Shifting the political terrain there requires continued, long-term investments in groups working year in and year out for local victories. We're proud to support:
• Power Up Texas Fund
• Workers Defense Action Fund
• Fix SAPD (via Texas Organizing Project)
Arizona Progressive Infrastructure
& Capacity Building
Arizona requires continued investments to strengthen the growing infrastructure outside the major metro areas of Phoenix and Tucson, as well as support for the rapidly growing progressive organizations in the state. In addition to a grant to LUCHA last month, we're funding these important organizations in Arizona:
• Instituto Power
• Our Voice Our Vote
• Rural Arizona Action
National/Multi-State Organizations
This round of grantmaking includes several national partners working closely with state-based organizations and providing important capacity and progressive infrastructure. These groups are developing new leaders, advocating for issues ranging from police accountability to immigration justice, and organizing for political impact.
• Advance Native Political Leadership • Black Voters Matter Fund
• Alliance for Youth Action • Progressive Caucus Action Fund
• Black Male Voter Project • United We Dream Action
