Deepening Investments in Gender and Racial Justice
The stakes of the November 2024 election can’t be overstated. The threats to our democracy extend far and wide, and there is growing disillusionment among large segments of voters as we continue to see profound attacks on nearly every issue we care about as a network. Amidst a backdrop of so much difficult news, we continue to be grounded in the power of long-term investments in organizing:
Rep. Summer Lee beat back her primary challenge against an AIPAC-funded candidate.
The courageous student movement of Gaza solidarity encampments shows that young people remain at the forefront of social movements and activism.
Grantee partner Sister District unveiled research revealing substantial opportunities to engage voters around down-ballot races.
An effort to uphold a near-total abortion ban in Arizona was repealed by Gov. Katie Hobbs.
Abortion access coalitions have exceeded signature thresholds in nearly all states with reproductive justice referendums on the ballot this year, proving what we already know to be true: gender justice is a winning issue.
WDN Action’s funding strategy bridges long-term investments in movements with responsive funding to meet the moment. Our priorities this year include:
Deepening funding in presidential and Senate battleground states
Targeted opportunities with a gender and racial justice lens (i.e. abortion ballot initiatives)
Strengthening c4 infrastructure with investments in capacity building, key constituencies, and targeted messaging
After moving more than $5 million in the first quarter of 2024, WDN Action is granting an additional $1.25 million across our priority areas. Like our investments earlier this year, we are resourcing work in key battleground states from Pennsylvania to Nevada, as well as layered opportunities to protect and advance gender, racial, economic, and climate justice.
Deepening funding in key states continues to be a top priority. States like Pennsylvania, Nevada and North Carolina are key presidential and Senate battlegrounds in 2024, as well as places that present critical state-level opportunities. An ecosystem approach is necessary to boost infrastructure and support key communities and demographics across these states.
We also continue to support organizing, engagement, and power-building of critical constituencies by funding groups organizing nationally and across multiple states.
Our recent funding is helping:
United We Dream Action build out civic engagement and voter outreach efforts for approximately 3 million low-propensity new American voters between 18-35 and develop narrative and cultural programs to combat dis- and mis-information.
Organizers in Nevada – including Make the Road Action, One APIA, and others – collect signatures for a critical abortion ballot initiative with a large-scale canvassing program.
Asian Pacific Islander Political Alliance (API PA) build out field programs for 25 races, including key row office races, and expand its language access work in advance of November.
Many of our grantee partners face an uphill climb to meet their budgets. There’s so much more work to be done. That’s why we must lean in to backing our partners – with resources, people power, and commitment – to the fullest extent possible.
C4 dollars are essential to the fight ahead. Make a contribution today to power this work and fuel the organizing necessary to win in November.
