Meet Our Board

Virginia M. Meany (she/her)

Board Treasurer

Virginia enjoyed a lengthy career in Financial Services including a three-year assignment in Washington D.C. for the Securities and Exchange Commission. Now, completely “retired”, she devotes her time, energy, and resources toward advocating for racial, economic, social, and gender justice. In this pursuit, she serves on several boards, volunteers her time, and focuses her philanthropy on grassroots activism.

As a Financial Services Executive, Virginia managed large operational teams during a period of rapid industry growth and disruption. Key to her success was the ability to create systems and processes to satisfy client needs, adhere to regulatory requirements, and an ability to select, develop and motivate talent. Early in her career, she recognized the importance of including diverse voices and experiences in decision-making. To that end, she promoted diversity equity and inclusion initiatives that included accountability metrics, workplace flexibility, and mentoring programs. (All of these efforts met with resistance, yet, it was a beginning.)

Virginia serves on boards whose missions align with her advocacy: achieving a just world with a focus on amplifying the voices of Black women leaders. She is Finance Chair of the Boston Women’s Fund, Co-Chairs the DEIA Committee of the League of Women Voters, and is a member of the Board of Governors of the Longy School of Music of Bard College. She is active in voter registration and voter engagement activities and has tutored in the Boston Public School system.

Virginia holds a BA in French Education and an MBA from Boston College. She and her husband have three children and an amazing granddaughter.
